Su Biluo forced a smile. “I married into the general’s estate to screw dad, didn’t you know?”

She arched her brow and strutted back toward the west compound.

The four siblings left behind just shook their heads incredulously.

“Sister-in-law really seems to… hate her dad,” Mo Ziling said innocently.

“In any case, Sister-in-law’s proposal is sound,” Mo Ziqian said. “In fact, I agree with Third Brother. We should have done it earlier. In the past it was for the Prince of Ning’s sake, but now that the imperial court is in dire straights, His Majesty ought not defer to Imperial Uncle.”

“Mm—” Mo Zichen finally nodded. “Tomorrow at court I will report this matter.”

The next day, Mo Zichen memorialized the throne and directly reported about Neverland.

The emperor, Mo Junyi, was moved when he heard it was about money.

Besides, Su Dechang really rubbed him the wrong way. “Dechang’s” was getting bigger and bigger; it had nearly monopolized Northern Mo’s economy. Yet he threw all his support and flattery on the Prince of Ning. What room was there in his heart for the Son of Heaven?

Therefore, ruler and subject quickly came to a tacit agreement.

Mo Junyi dispatched someone to proclaim an imperial decree to immediately end Dechang’s warhorse trade. And he looked the other way at Neverland’s meteoric rise.

Su Biluo and Mo Zi’an quickly joined forces and snatched up the warhorse trade.

Mo Zi’an’s crafty, adaptive mind was brought into play in all its glory and he revered his new sister-in-law.

That day, Mo Zi’an specially ordered a sumptuous meal prepared and he invited Su Biluo over to have a drink with him.

Su Biluo generously celebrated their success with her brother-in-law and drank until she was half-drunk, then he took her on a tour of his newly-opened horse ranch to ask her for advice on how run the place even better.

Su Biluo followed him to the new horse ranch, which was located in a dense forest on the outskirts of the capital.

She gave him a lot of advice based on modern horse ranches. Then Mo Zi’an stayed behind to implement her advice while she went back to the capital by herself.

It was twilight, merging into darkness. Su Biluo quickened her steps as she crossed through a plum grove. The sudden caw of a jackdaw made her hair stand on end.

Suddenly, several masked figures scurried out of the dense woods brandishing swords at her.

“Ah—help!”

She was so frightened she blanched and covered her head and fled.

Several blades whizzed past her and plum blossoms rained down.

Fluttering plum blossoms filled the sky, sprinkling down softly like a rain of red snow, obstructing the killers’ vision.

Su Biluo was in no mood to appreciate the view. She was too busy dodging left and scurrying right, her heart a pit of despair. At this juncture, what were her chances of survival?

“Help! Help—”

The tip of a sword poked through the front of her skirt, another cut loose her coiled hair, and yet another sword flashed before her eyes. Her heart pounded and she froze in terror.

Quicker than words can tell, another figure darted over and deftly grabbed her.

Su Biluo, along with a shower of plum blossoms, fell into the person’s big arms.

She opened her eyes and a peerlessly handsome, and familiar, face leapt into view.

“General—” she cried softly.

Mo Zichen didn’t bother responding. He held her and fought off the masked killers. The killers were wounded and lost the will to fight, and so ran for their lives.

Su Biluo was no longer afraid. Still her little heart thumped wildly. She looked transfixed on the beautiful face before her and was suddenly struck dumb by his easy, unrestrained heroic spirit.

If she couldn’t go back to the 21st century then maybe this general’s estate was the best place to stay. That was fate for you. Might as well accept it, Su Biluo.

Translator’s Note: The “Mo” in Emper Mo Junyi’s (漠) name is a different “Mo” than Mo Zichen (墨). Northern Mo is the same Mo as Mo Junyi (漠).
