Chapter 29: Commotion on Wind & Rain Bridge

The main avenue of the capital was bustling.

The morning market was still open and business was good for the street vendors as people wove through the crowd along the street. The entrance to Neverland was just a hundred or so feet to the right of the general’s estate. It was early in the morning, but there were still quite a few guests there to drink morning tea and catch a play. Though business was not as teeming as it had been when it first open, it was still doing very well.

Su Biluo strolled passed it with her hands behind her back, a satisfied look on her face, her eyes pointed straight ahead without a glance toward Neverland’s doors.

Moonglow and Vivid looked at each other blankly and hurried to catch up. “Madame, where are we going? Aren’t we going to check up on Neverland?”

“To make money, of course. We’ve just laid the foundations. 100,000 taels in four months is the limit. But that’s too slow. I still need 200,000 more in the next two months so I can impress my husband and shine before him.”

Su Biluo saw Moonglow and Vivid were confused so she pulled them close and whispered into their ears. Their eyes brightened and they nodded repeatedly.

“Okay, I’ll go get the gong.” Vivid was the first to respond. She ran off as soon as she finished speaking.

Fifteen minutes later, Vivid appeared out of the busy crowd with a gong in her hand and a big sack hoisted over her shoulder.

Su Biluo and Moonglow had already staked out a spot at the highest point on the arching Wind & Rain Bridge. Vivid ran over and the three of them stood side by side, cheerfully beating the gong.

In no time, everyone’s attention was drawn to them.

The three pretty girls on Wind & Rain Bridge looked like they were out of a painting, standing there in the breeze by the gentle swaying willows.

Soon, Wind & Rain Bridge was packed with people. Even the windows of the second floor of Dustwind Gardens was crowded with curious powdered faces.

Su Biluo happened to look up and her gaze was suddenly drawn to a remarkable beauty leaning against the window. Her pretty eyes roamed and she had a smooth nose and peasch cheeks wearing a smile. It was like the winter cold had snapped and spring had come early.

She sighed to herself. How could someone be so beautiful. Could she be that legendary courtesan, Liu Ruyan?

Moonglow cupped a hand over her fist and exicitedly announced, “Fellow townspeople, this servant is a maid in the grand general’s estate, called ‘Moonglow’. This is the general’s wife, Madame Su Biluo. Madame has a project she would like to invite you all to participate in.”

Su Biluo had to look away from the Dustwind Gardens window. She smiled and stepped forward and greeted everyone, her hand over her fist.

“Everyone, this madame knows you all know of General Mo’s renown and have always respected his prestige and authority. If you were given the chance, for one tael of silver, just one tael of silver, to go to the training grounds to train, would you want to?” She was smiling.

The crowd burst into excitement.

This was really no small matter. The training grounds were located just outside the capital and had always been a restricted area. No one was allowed within ten miles of the place. It was said that a hunter once wandered too close and was shot in the leg by an arrow.

Mo Zichen’s aggressive, overbearing reputation was well-known and was his training grounds off limits, if anyone so much as looked at him when he was out riding on the street, he would flog them sensless with his whip.

And so it was often said that Mo Zichen was a peerless hunk, a rarity, yet no one had ever laid eyes on him.

But now, the words from the general’s wife’s own mouth set the crowd to seething like a bursting pot and there was much talk and speculation. A tael of silver was nothing, but one’s life was nothing to lose, how was this going to work?

Su Biluo pricked her ears up and listened carefully. Realizing the people’s trepidation, she pursed her lips in a smile and raised her voice. “Hey, everyone, settle down. This madame is the grand general’s wife, of course I can guarantee your safety. Have no fear. Besides, that tael of silver will not be wasted. For that one tael of silver, you can go to out Mo Family horse ranch and take a horsemanship and archery lesson, enter a horse race, and attend a barbeque. Don’t you think that’s worth the price?”

A bundled package has always been a great way to promote. In business, how could it just be one price for one item?
