Chapter 15: Summoning the Courage to Go Alone

Ordinarily, those in the east compound would eat in the east compound and the two dowagers would eat in the north compound.

Not because the Mo siblings didn’t want to eat with their elders, but because the dowagers were old and preferred soft foods because of their teeth and didn’t want to impose on the younger ones and spoil the mood.

Today, however, was obviously a different story.

Since this younger cousin had graced them all with her presence, of course they would all get together and invite her to dinner. That’s why Mo Zichen had ordered food to be brought over.

Nothing wrong with that. According to Moonglow, this cousin was really somebody, the Darkmoon Princess of Southern Man.

Man Yuke’s mother, Empress Mo Xiangjun, was Mo Zichen’s paternal aunt, daughter of the old dowager. Whether familial relationship or status and position, Su Biluo was no match.

Which only roused Su Biluo’s fighting spirit even more.

Again and again she looked over Moonglow’s makeup work, all the while grumbling to herself about how cloudy these ancient bronze mirrors were as she personally touched up her lips with rouge and powdered her face to lighten it a bit more.

Finally satisfied, she puckered her cherry lips and kissed her mirrored reflection.

In the 21st century, Su Biluo’s looks were average, but she was more satisfied after transmigrating to the small state of Northern Mo and taking up residence in this other Su Biluo body. She had never dreamed of being such a radiant, out-of-this-world beauty.

But right now she couldn’t believe that this good-looking body and her intelligence and insight had been unable to win Mo Zichen over.

That damn Mo Zichen seemed intent on being antagonistic. Moonglow went out to see how things were going and came back in to report that everyone was already over there except for her, what was that about?

Soon, everyone aside from Mo Zi’an who was busy at the horse ranch, and Mo Di, who was busy tending to Neverland, had gone to attend the banquet, leaving her all by her lonesome. But Su Biluo didn’t mind, she just summoned her courage and got ready to go to the north compound by herself.

She carried the gifts Vivid had prepared as Vivid came into her room. Vivid pointed at her face, wanting to say something, but Su Biluo’s haste cut her off.

But as soon as she crossed the threshold she drew her foot back and sped back to her writing desk and grabbed the account book she had balanced last night and thrust it into the folds of her robe and called for Vivid and Moonglow to accompany her.

Cheerful laughter emanated from the main hall of the north compound, which was brightly lit by eight copper goose & fish lanterns.

As soon as Su Biluo entered, she was greeted by the sight of an old, white-haired madame seated at the head of the table. Her pale skin was covered with wrinkles, but her eyes still shone like they had when she was younger. She wore an exquisite light green silk robe patterned with ancient mist and green cloud designs. The maid behind her held her dragon-head cane. One look and it was clear she was of royal background: the old dowager, Mo Fengzhi.

To her right sat a beautiful, middle-aged woman with willow-leaf brows and limpid, apricot eyes. Her dress was a thin, light pink, soft-mist silk sprinkled with flower designs that outlined her lithe, graceful, still attractive figure. It was clear she had been quite a beauty in her younger days.

Su Biluo assumed that was her mother-in-law, Meng Zixian. She was a natural beauty; no wonder she had given birth to such an unabashadly handsome Mo Zichen. Not to mention Mo Zichen, Mo Ziqian, Mo Zi’an, and Mo Ziling were all quite attractive.

The siblings sat in their proper order next to Meng Zixian.

Still, their eyes nearly popped out of their heads when they saw Su Biluo, their mouths hanging open like they couldn’t believe it.

Su Biluo cast them a standoffish glance. What was this reaction? It’s not like this was the first time they’d seen her.

Her gaze anxiously fell to the left of the old dowager, at the precious treasure Mo Fengzhi was holding tightly by the hand, her granddaughter, Man Yuke. And seated next to her was Mo Zichen. Oh, still sitting so close to each other.

Su Biluo’s eyes gleamed. The flames of war were about to be lit.
